Out and about in Perth Hills 24-06-2025

A few weeks ago when I was looking for places to go on Google Maps, I came across  a large area of bushland with a few granite outcrops spread around,  I have been curious about this place for a few weeks but couldn't work out how to get there, I noticed there was a few tracks around and it was close to a rest area, I don't always get the chance to use Forester for my trips, the other car is an old I30 ,and I can't take that offroad much, so after spending some time on Google maps, I found a route to get there but with the use of my Mountain bike, so I folded the back car seats down and took the front wheel off the bike and put it in the back of the I30. Making my way to the rest area unloaded the bike put the front wheel back on, luckily it has the quick release wheel nuts,

I grabbed the camera bag and off I went, I worked out that it was about a 1.5km ride, not that far I was confident my knee was going to handle it. I often ride to the local bushlands which is around a 3.5 km return trip maybe a little longer, one day I rode about 7km, and my knee was fine. but this day I didn't take any hills into consideration getting there was the easy part,  it was the journey back and the soft muddy sand and a slight up hill ride, not a big hill but not being real fit, that caused issues with my knee, I managed to get back ok but just wasn't used riding in the bush like that,  I did attach my gopro to the bike for the trip, and took a few videos. I plan to go back again, but with the forester so I can drive there next time. Here is some snaps from there. I did put the drone up as well, I left some of the camera gear at home so I could fit the drone in my back pack.

.

There was also a lot of dumped rubbish around the area which was disappointing, it was very muddy and it looks like when it rains a lot there is a quite a bit of water flow travelling around this granite outcrop, after getting some photos it was time to make the trip back to the car. When I got back to the it was pack the bike and cameras away, I grabbed a drink and just sat in the car recovering for a while. After I had recovered I headed of back to Roley pool for a quick walk and to practice some long exposures.

It was only a quick stop at Roley Pool, I walked back to the car then headed towards Churchman Brook To look for some birds and it is that time of the year when the Fungi is growing so I was hoping to get some Fungi today as well.

It was getting late in the afternoon by the time I finished here so I headed for home I always like to try and get home before the traffic starts.

Out in Perth Hills looking for Fungi

I had a late start today I originally was going to stay home and just relax, so it took me a while to get out of bed, it was like 10:30am nearly 11 when I had my first coffee, by the time I was ready to head out it was nearly 1pm. so only stopped at Canning dam and Wungong dam today before coming home to beat the traffic. Being the the start of winter there is usually a lot of Fungi growing out in the Forest and dams, I have never really thought in the past to dedicate a day to Fungi hunting, I went out the other day and had a great time looking for fungi. I usually bring my drone with me as well just incase the weather is nice enough to be able to put it up. I took quite a few videos today mainly cause I want to add trip videos as well in the future but that is work in progress at the moment. Here is a few from Canning Dam.

Over all there was quite a bit of Fungi around, I will probably come back in a few days and have another look around. after spending quite a bit of time wandering around I went to Wungong dam, there wasn't much fungi around or birds really so I had a little play with the drone.  so there is only a couple of  photos from the drone here today.

Blog update

Hi all its that time of year again when the Fungi are starting to pop up here and there and shortly the birds will be getting ready for breeding season, I am still in the process of updating the posts and editing the many photos I have taken in the last couple of years, its a long process for me and I don't really have to much time to spend on it, but we are still working on it, hopefully have more posts up soon for you to look at. So keep watching this space for updated or New Posts.

I have done quite a few trips out and about exploring perth hills lately so I have many posts to create, with winter starting now the waterfalls will start flowing and lakes will fill up, in a couple of months the wildflowers will start growing and the birds with be looking for partners for the breeding season its a good time of year to start getting out and about, unfortunately after spring has sprung and the weather gets warmer the snakes start coming out, and we get fire bans which means no driving through the bush in your car/4wd cause of the risks of fires, and then you have the snakes we have some deadly snakes here in the bush so if you get bitten you may be in a little trouble, The trips I have done so far this year and in the future, most I will probably get put on the blog when the weather gets warmer and it gets too hot to be outside.
