Marks Offroad Adventures and Daytrips

  Today Karen and I had the day off so we decided to go for a drive out into the country, the trip today we thought we would go down Southwest Highway find a pub for lunch and visit Wellington Dam then Collie and head home via Arthur River on Albany Hwy.   It was quite a warm day today around 35 degrees most of the trip being the start of Autumn the fields and bush is all dry after a warm summer with hardly any rain, we fuelled up in Byford and continued along Southwest Highway, we didn’t stop much as the trip was nearly 500km long, more just to have a look what is around for future trips, scouting for old homesites to photograph and some granite outcrops, which I love to photograph.   Our first stop was for lunch as it was close to Midday when we left, we stopped at the Wokalup   Hotel to see what was on offer for lunch, it was quite busy and it looked like the staff were run off their feet none of the empty tables were clean, and the menu was quite disapp...

      Today my wife Karen and I both had days off from work so we decided to do a trip to go and look for wildflowers and have a look at the Canola fields as they are in bloom at the moment, we left around 11 am maybe a little earlier fueled up and headed off, driving through Roleystone along the Brookton highway keeping an eye out for wildflowers our first stop was West Dale at a lookout over looking Canola Fields, there is views almost all the way around except from the way we came.  Here are a few snaps from the West Dale lookout     I have recently Bought a cheapish drone to have a play with I hope to buy a better one in the Future the picture quality is not great on it but it is ok for viewing on smaller devices, I had hoped to put it up and take a couiple aerial shots but it was quite windy and I am still learning to fly it. Today was another planned tripped visiting Serpentine Dam, Jarahdale POW Camp and a part of Wungong Dam, I have planned a few more for the future now that the hotter weather is over it is time to get out and about again, I did a few small detecting trips over the summer in the bush and the beach, finding the usual stuff but nothing real exciting. Today was a reasonably short trip I reallly just wanted to get out and take a few photos something I haven't done for a while, I have been playing with camera at home and recently went to an old lake which I believe has been around for well over 200 years according to old maps I have seen, the older landscape was different, and some of the trees very old ( See Lake Coogee Post published 3 December 2023), I have a bad knee at the moment so it is a little bit hard to walk too far.  Today was a short trip I went and did some metal Detecting at the Beach, and stopped in at Lake Coogee, it was a first visit for me here today just wanted to stop and have a quick look it was getting warm so I never stayed for long. I have been looking at some old maps and noticed that Lake Coogee has not really changed since the early 1800's rumours of an early planned settlement that never happened, I believe its on private property, a Settlement was established late 1800's for War Veterens or for the men who had retrurned from the war,  some of the ruins of the old buildings are around along Cockburn road and the Army Barracks At Woodmans Point, not 100% sure if the story or how it was established or when it was active, The old Landscape at Lake Coogee amazed me I need to go back and take some better Photos the following photos were just a few snaps from around the lake, I am amazed how crystal clear the lake is although I think it may be a salt lake.
